Program Overview
The Master Qualifying Program (MQP) is a one-semester non-award program designed for students who already have a tertiary qualification but who do not qualify for direct entry into a Master’s degree at Curtin University. The emphasis is on developing the skills necessary to succeed in postgraduate-level studies.
Leading to: Master of Sexology (Professional)
This course provides specialist knowledge and skills in sexology. You will examine research on the biological, psychological and social aspects of human sexuality, and study different research methods. Ethics in sexology are also highly prioritised.
You’ll study many of the same units as the graduate certificate and graduate diploma. You will develop a variety of intrapersonal, interpersonal and professional skills to support you work in sexology. This includes specific skills related to sexual health education and counselling. Common sexual issues and difficulties will also be addressed.
After studying these units, you will undertake a supervised placement (approximately 100 hours) where you can apply your learnings in a professional setting, as well as a capstone unit where you’ll work on an industry project such as a program plan, policy analysis or health impact assessment.
When you graduate, you’ll be conversant in the key aspects of sexology as a public health issue and be able to seamlessly integrate your learning into your professional discipline.

- Synthesise and evaluate available evidence to inform decision making in the pursuit of innovative solutions in sexological public health settings
- Locate, extract, interpret and assess relevant information from a range of sources and use it to support academic debate about and practical solutions to sexological issues
- Communicate effectively with community members to promote understanding of sexological issues and disseminate sexological research to academic and professional audiences
- Embrace appropriate technologies to enhance the production and dissemination of sexological knowledge and practice
- Demonstrate an advanced level of independent and self-directed learning to enhance individual and collective professional development in the field of sexology
- Incorporate international best practice into sexological public health practice
- Demonstrate respect for human sexual rights and cultural diversity in relation to sexual attitudes, values and practices
- Work independently as a researcher and practitioner and function effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary or community team; collect and manage information ethically and apply ethical reasoning to sexological issues and practice.

Scholarships
High Achiever Scholarship
This scholarship covers a maximum of 15% off the tuition fee for the subsequent Curtin College study period when you have achieved a minimum study period weighted average of 65% in your current study period and enrolled in a full-time study load for the current study period according to your study plan.
Terms and Conditions:
- This scholarship is for full fee paying, non-sponsored international students.
- This scholarship is only for international students at Curtin College. It excludes students enrolled in the Masters Qualifying Program (MQP).
- This scholarship is available to students who are packaged with Curtin University.
- The scholarship amount cannot be withdrawn by the student.
- This scholarship covers a maximum of 15% off the tuition fee for the subsequent Curtin College study period when you have achieved a minimum study period weighted average of 65% in your current study period and enrolled in a full-time study load for the current study period according to your study plan.
- You are required to pay the full tuition fee amount stated on your Letter of Offer and student invoice, the amount of the scholarship will be credited as a refund in your student account if you have deemed eligible by the Curtin College Scholarship Committee.
- You will not be eligible for the scholarship if you are in receipt of any other scholarship/bursary/ sponsorship from Curtin College, Curtin University or any other third party. The scholarship can be revoked at the discretion of the college if you already have a scholarship or sponsorship.
- This scholarship is not transferable or refundable.
- The scholarship must be taken up in the calendar year for which they are offered.
- This scholarship can be revoked if you do not accept your Letter of Offer or enrol into your Curtin College and Curtin University course by the dates specified in your Letter of Offer.
- The scholarship will not be extended beyond its prescribed duration or amount unless notified otherwise by the College.
- Curtin College reserves the right to vary or add to any of these terms and conditions at its discretion with adequate notice.
To retain the scholarship:
- If you apply for Deferral, you will not be eligible for the scholarship upon your return.
- If you withdraw, defer or are terminated from your course, you will not be eligible for the continuation of the scholarship.
- To retain eligibility for the Scholarship (unless there are exceptional circumstances), you must remain enrolled in your initial course at Curtin College and Curtin University (with the exception of your major) according to your study plan and maintain a study period weight average of 65% and pass all units attempted.
- You must remain enrolled as an international student for the duration of the Scholarship. If your citizenship changes during the Scholarship period, the Scholarship will only be applied to the units you completed as an international student.
- You must enrol in all units each period according to your approved study plan. which constitutes a maximum of four (4) units of study or a minimum of three (3) units of study.
- You must not breach the scholarship terms and conditions outlined in this document.
- You must comply with all other College rules and regulations.
