What is a Foundation Studies Standard Program? 
A UNSW Foundation Studies Program is your supportive pathway to the First Year of any UNSW degree. The Standard Program goes for nine months, which is a faster pace than other Foundation programs we offer.

Our programs are designed to suit your academic and English skills and prepare you for studying at university, with specific streams that align with your degree. We support you with personalised learning, small classes and social activities to help build your future at UNSW.?

Who is this program for?
The Foundation Studies Standard Program has been designed specifically for international students who have strong results in Year 11 or 12, but have not met the entry requirements for their chosen undergraduate degree. 

As a pre-university program, you can select the stream that best aligns with your chosen degree, so your learning is more tailored. You’ll also be supported to improve your English, critical thinking and presentation skills, participating in lectures and tutorials that will prepare you for university.

Actuarial Studies Stream
The Actuarial Studies stream is for students with higher mathematical ability and intending to progress to a Bachelor of Actuarial Studies.

Leading to: Bachelor of Data Science and Decisions
If you’re thinking about studying data science, you’re probably already aware of its power to shape our world. As billions of devices feed data to central databases, businesses and governments require experts to interpret that data. Data scientists have become one of the most in-demand professionals globally because they have the unique skills to unlock hidden insights within data.

The Bachelor of Data Science and Decisions will prepare you to compile, interpret and act on data in ways that make a big impact. This degree combines training in mathematical methods, statistics, computing and business decision-making with communication skills. You’ll gain the theoretical and practical skills required to enter the field of data analysis, where networking, decision-making, strategic thinking and attention to detail are essential.

Major: Quantitative Data Science
Quantitative Data Science is the study of methods for organising, modelling and analysing large and complex data relevant for businesses, governments or other organisations. The information gleaned from the data analysis is intended to improve business decisions and inform policies.

The program provides a strong technical background in mathematics, statistics, computer science and economics. The Quantitative Data Science major enables a student to specialise further in mathematical and statistical methods to interpret, understand and predict data.
