A foundation year can help you adjust after high school study so you are ready to join year one of your chosen degree programme. Foundations are perfect if you need an extra layer of study and support.

All our Foundation courses covered in this section lead to Manchester Metropolitan University degrees via an International Year One course. progression is automatic if you pass all required modules.

Your visa will cover the entire period of study in both your foundation year and bachelor’s degree, so there is no need to reapply after you have completed your foundation.

Foundation in Engineering and Computing

This programme will help provide you with the skills to forge a successful career as an engineer and/or computer and software developer.

You will explore theoretical and practical approaches to engineering, as well as computing problems and troubleshooting. You will have the freedom to specialise in a discipline of your choice. In turn, you will begin to develop the fundamental knowledge and understanding of the basic principles of engineering and computing.

The pathway will also enhance your skills in critical and creative thinking, research methods, information and communication technology, and the English language.

Leading to : Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Software Engineering

Study a software engineering degree with us and you’ll build the essential skills you need to work with software systems – opening the door to a range of career opportunities. You’ll cover all aspects of the software engineering process, with a focus on the methodical approach to robust, error-free software design and development.

In your first year, you’ll start with the core principles of computer architecture, databases, web design and programming. You’ll then begin to specialise, with areas of study like software design and development processes, full-stack web development and advanced programming.

As you progress, you’ll develop knowledge of cloud computing, full-stack web development, software testing, as well as advanced development skills in a range of programming languages. You’ll also tackle team-based projects and a large-scale software project in your final year. This will help you to build vital project management skills, as well as giving you a sound understanding of the role of software development tools within the software life cycle.

Our BSc (Hons) Software Engineering and BSc (Hons) Computer Science degrees share a common first year, allowing you to switch between these courses at the end of your first year.
