Join a collaborative and diverse community of students, internationally renowned faculty and leaders in the largest U.S. Asian American Studies program. We carry on the mission of our founding activities to address social inequities, encourage self-determination and serve our diverse Asian American communities.

Our graduate students apply critical pedagogies and theories to conduct original research that advances the field of Asian American Studies. With personalized faculty mentorship, graduate students learn to engage in interdisciplinary scholarship in many sub-disciplines, including education, gender studies, sexuality studies, history, law, behavioral science and more.

Program Learning Outcomes

  1. Gain an interdisciplinary understanding of the histories, cultures, and racialization of Asian Americans.
  2. Apply course concepts and critical theories and methodologies to identify the structural and ideological forces that shape the lives of Asian Americans.
  3. Apply the skills and knowledge acquired toward the self-determination and empowerment of Asian American communities.
  4. Develop values of social justice, equity, activism, and respect for differences.
  5. Construct evidence-based and persuasive oral and written arguments with proper citations and support from multiple forms of knowledge, including community and academic resources, that communicate what students have discovered.

    • Minimum Level of Education Required: To be accepted into this program, applicants must have  An undergraduate art degree or equivalent preparatory degree, with three units of contemporary art history taken within the last five years. If the applicant does not complete this upon admission to the program, enrollment in a contemporary art history class during the first semester is required.

    Scholarships

    • The scholarship award ($1,500.00) will be disbursed during the Fall 2025 semester. To be eligible students must be enrolled at least half time (6 units) during the Fall semester 2025 when the awarded funds will be disbursed to the student’s account.
