Program Overview

Studying writing at UW-Superior is a great way to turn your passion for writing into a career. Our multi-faceted writing program is led by published authors dedicated to helping you hone your craft and prepare your work for publication.

As a student in the Writing program, you’ll enjoy small, workshop-style classes, where you’ll read widely, brainstorm, draft, give and receive feedback and revise in an encouraging and inventive atmosphere. Equal parts hard work and inspiration allow you to develop your skills and craft for writing in college and beyond.

You’ll learn a wide range of writing techniques from in-depth creative, professional and applied writing courses – all designed to open various career paths. Our students gain hands-on experience in writing and publishing with the Nemadji Review literary magazine and through a range of internship opportunities. Many graduates go on to publish novels, memoirs, narrative nonfiction, cookbooks and more, while others find careers in technical writing, social media, non-profits and other writing-related fields. You can count on our high-quality writing program and personalized academic support to help you succeed.

    Scholarship Information

Aplying for scholarships is a great way to earn free dollars to fund your education. Unlike other types of financial aid, scholarships are cash gifts provided by organizations or donors that do not need to be repaid. Along with many scholarship opportunities in and outside of our community, the UW-Superior Alumni and Friends Foundation offers 12 full-tuition scholarships to new, incoming freshmen each year. That means a little time invested upfront could leave you graduating debt-free. Trust us, it’s worth it!

Students can also apply to the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF), which provides students with stipends of either $1,750 or $3,500, to support them while conducting research.
