Southern Institute of Technology - Invercargill Campus Overview

Southern Institute of Technology (SIT) | Te Pukenga provides quality tertiary education and training across a wide range of subjects and qualifications. From certificates to postgraduate studies, we offer NZQA programmes for students to learn at a level and pathway that suits them.

We are home to the Zero Fees Scheme and are the only tertiary provider in Aotearoa New Zealand to offer a no-tuition cost education to domestic akonga (students) for study at all levels. We offer SIT programmes at campuses in Invercargill, Christchurch, Queenstown, Gore, and online through SIT2LRN Distance Learning.

We also have specialised music and rural education faculties - MAINZ – Music and Audio Institute of New Zealand (Christchurch) and Telford in Balclutha, South Otago.

Invercargill Campus

Invercargill is where the Southern Institute of Technology started and where the innovative SIT Zero Fees Scheme was born.

Since 1971 we have taught majority of our programmes here between our three centrally located campuses (Main Campus, Downtown Campus & SIT Sound).

Many of our Students move to Invercargill to study and take advantage of the Zero Fees Scheme and Southland's lower living costs.

MAIN CAMPUS
SIT's Main Campus is the main hub of SIT and has our Administration, Student Support, Library and other student facilities. It houses our Trades, Business, Health Sciences, Hospitality, Tourism and Animal Care courses and is surrounded by lots of FREE parking.

TE RAU O TE HUIA (SIT CENTRE FOR CREATIVE  INDUSTRIES)
Located in the heart of town, Te Rau o Te Huia opened in 2021 and houses our Art, Design, Film, Animation as well as Music courses. The old St John’s Church today is equipped with the latest technology from the industry. Students and staff can also experience a variety of cabinet food and hot drinks at the Kahu Ariki Café.

SIT SOUND
SIT Sound Campus houses all our Audio and Music courses.
